What is Halloween?
Halloween Guest Book – Halloween is a yearly holiday and one of the most anticipated event. Halloween is celebrated on October 31, and this year, 2018, occurs on a Wednesday. Halloween was once an ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. In that festival, people wear costumes and light bonfires in belief that they would ward off ghosts.
Starting on the 8th century, the 1st of November has been declared by Pope Gregory III as the time for people to honor all the saints. Later on, some of the traditions from the Celtic festival of Samhain were incorporated on All Saints Day. The evening before the 1st of November was called to be as “All Hallows Eve” which was then changed to Halloween over time.
This event became a day full of fun activities as one of their way to recognize All Saints Day. Activities involved are trick-or-treating, giving out & eating candies, Halloween parties with family & friends, scary food and costumes preparations, and don’t forget about carving jack-o-lanterns.
Tradition or Rituals During Halloween
Trick or Treating
This is a ritual made for both adults and children practiced in different parts all over the world. They wear costumes and knock from one door to another in a neighborhood and asking the house owners for treats. These treats are candies, but some places prefer giving out money.
